About SEPE

SEPE (Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal) is the Spanish national employment service, one of the largest and most visited public digital platforms in Spain. It provides employment services, benefits, and support to millions of users, including job seekers, companies, and public employees.

As part of the digital transformation strategy, we conducted a deep UX audit of the SEPE platform, focusing on identifying key usability and accessibility issues that were creating barriers for users — especially for those with cognitive, visual, or physical impairments.

My Contribution

  • Led a heuristic evaluation of the existing SEPE portal, identifying pain points based on Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics.

  • Conducted card sorting sessions to better understand users’ mental models and improve the site’s information architecture.

  • Mapped user journeys and pinpointed critical accessibility blockers in real scenarios.

  • Collaborated with accessibility experts to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and proposed enhancements beyond the minimum legal standards.

  • Delivered a full redesign proposal of the platform with improved structure, navigation, and accessibility — tailored to a wide and diverse user base.
